Counting down to HOPE Count 2013

Thanks to all our volunteers who have signed up for the 2013 HOPE Count on January 28th. (If you haven’t yet, we’re still looking for a few more volunteers, so please hurry and register using the online form!)

If this is your first HOPE Count, you may be wondering what to expect.

The most important thing to know is that you’re in good hands. We’ll give you all the training you need, and pair you up with experienced participants. We’ll also provide coffee and snacks throughout the night.

Many of Common Ground’s employees will be on hand to participate, and provide guidance to beginners. Here’s how one Common Ground employee, Laura, describes the night:

“When you arrive, there’s time to mingle with all the volunteers, then you’ll meet your team leader and have some refreshments. The training will tell you everything you need to know and your team leader will be experienced and be able to answer any questions you have. When you go out into your assigned area, your entire team will stick together so you will never be alone. As you encounter homeless people on the street, your team leader will help complete the surveys and you can participate as directly as you like. The entire experience is designed to make the volunteers feel comfortable and to keep everyone safe.  When you have completed the canvas of your assigned area, your team returns to the Times Square Hotel to turn in your documents, receives their t-shirts, and then heads home for some much needed sleep, typically around 2:00 a.m.”

The weather forecast is calling for a cold night, so please dress warmly. You should have received an email with the address and meeting time. If you don’t recall receiving that message, or if you have any other questions, please contact us at: hopecount@commonground.org.
