Common Ground is now Breaking Ground
We are pleased to share with you that as of October 23, 2015, Common Ground has changed its name to Breaking Ground.
As you know, we are celebrating our 25th anniversary. Since 1990, we have introduced groundbreaking solutions to homelessness—including being a pioneer in the Housing First movement, managing the largest permanent supportive residence in the country, helping develop the city’s homelessness outreach model, and championing great architecture and design for low-income housing.
Our new name, Breaking Ground, reflects our organization’s history of restoring and building structures and lives, and signals a new era of growth and an expanded mission that goes beyond supportive housing in combatting homelessness.
We have committed to construct 1,000 new supportive and affordable units to help New York City’s most vulnerable residents over the next five years, including our first building for low-income families. Our commitment to helping the chronically homeless renew their lives is stronger than ever, and we are broadening our commitment to help those in danger of homelessness – families that might be a paycheck away from being on the streets. We see this as critical to our mission of fighting homelessness and fighting for our most vulnerable neighbors.
We are extremely proud of our 25 years of incredibly hard work that has allowed 12,000 people to escape and avoid homelessness. Thank you for your support. We look forward to our next 25 years with you!
